THE TYPES AND FUNTIONS OF SLANGS IN “FINNICK” MOVIE

Abstract

There is no denying that the entertainment industry is responsible for shaping the language world, including the vocabulary of viewers. From popular slang terms to phrases, movies have its massive contribution. This research focuses on analyzing the slang words in Finnick movie which has been translated in English by Australians at 3beep studio. The purpose of the study is to find out the types and functions by using a descriptive qualitative method. Word filtering is used to identify slang words which are then marked and explained using content analysis techniques. The result of this study shows that there are two types of slangs found in this movie, namely primary and secondary. In term of functions, the expressive, informational, directive, aesthetic, and phatic function are found. The expressive function to express emotions is the most commonly used in this movie.
